External organizations also provide assistance to our students. Students are encouraged to apply for these external awards, scholarships and/or bursaries. Additional listings in Windsor are posted on the bulletin board across from the Financial Aid Office, Room 166 in Windsor. In Chatham, additional listings are located on the bulletin board located in the side hallway outside of Room 134.

All students are encouraged to contact employers or organizations that offer bursaries to sons, daughters or spouses of employees and members.

Anishinabek Student Excellence Awards

Four scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each will be awarded to Anishinabek First Nation students at the post-secondary level for academic excellence.

Applicants must be a registered full-time student at an accredited post-secondary college or university. Students who are currently enrolled as well as those who have completed studies and are graduating in 2019 are eligible.

Applicant must be a registered member of one of the 40 Anishinabek First Nations.

ATHENA Scholarship Fund Windsor

The ATHENA Scholarship Fund (Windsor) is proud to announce that applications are now being received for its 2019 ATHENA Scholarship Program. We will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the ATHENA Scholarship Fund Windsor. Please see the attachment for the 2019 ATHENA Scholarship Application form. We would appreciate it if you could bring this Scholarship opportunity to the attention of your students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • be between the ages of 18 and 30 years as of January 1, 2019
  • be presently enrolled full-time (attending primarily during the day) in a college or university
  • have spent a significant and substantial period of time (at least 18 months as of April 1, 2019) in Windsor/Essex County.

Students may be male or female and must demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement and be engaged in leadership activities. Most importantly, they must have increased the leadership opportunities for women by mentoring, role-modelling and leading activities that help women reach their full potential.

Three scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded as follows:

  • one to a St. Clair College student
  • one to a University of Windsor student
  • one to a student who is attending any college or university provided he/she has spent a significant period of time in Windsor/Essex County (see above).

Athena Scholarship Application

A Place for Mom: Senior Care Scholarship

The annual scholarship award is for (5) students enrolled in an associate's degree, bachelor's degree or graduate level program in a medical, nursing or social sciences related major. The student must be planning on pursuing a career that involves working with senior citizens. The applicant must be attending classes at an accredited college or university at the time of the spring deadline. Scholarship will be awarded to five students who write the most compelling essay as judged by an outside panel of senior living professionals. The scholarship amount for $1,000 is awarded to five individuals.

Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC) Bursary

CAWIC is a non-profit organization of women employed in various construction related fields. One of its mandates is to promote education and encourage young women to pursue careers in the construction industry.

This year CAWIC offers financial bursaries to women students in post-secondary institutions who aspire to careers in construction related fields and have not previously received our Bursary. Qualifications are based on the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be female
  • Completion of at least the first year of a diploma or degree program at a college or university in Ontario and full-time enrollment in the continuing year.
  • Clear career objectives relating to the construction industry
  • Evidence of financial need
  • Leadership qualities and involvement in community activities

Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Windsor

The Canadian Nurses Foundation

The Canadian Nurses Foundation is committed to promoting the health and patient care of Canadians by financially supporting Canadian nurses engaged in higher education, research, home health-care and specialty certification; advocating dissemination and utilization of nursing knowledge.

College Student Alliance

This is an annual scholarship presented by the College Student Alliance (CSA) Board of Directors to 15 outstanding individuals across the province who have demonstrated leadership qualities within their college community through volunteerism and participation in organizations primarily focused on helping other. The College Student Alliance Scholarship was created by the 2010 CSA membership to give recognition to Students who have shown leadership, while maintaining a high standard of scholastic success in their chosen programs. The award recipient will receive a scholarship of $2,500 and an invitation to our annual Awards Gala in May, all expenses paid. The recipients will be presented their award at their home campus at a time and location to be determined by their Student Association.

The scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional merit without regard to financial need.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Dick Martin Scholarship Award program, administered by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). The Electro-Federation Scholarship Program

2019 EFC Scholarship Program The EFC Scholarship program provides post-secondary students who are interested in pursuing a career in the Electrical industry, with funding to support their academics.

Executive Women International (EWI) - ASIST Scholarship

The Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) Scholarship is a non-discriminatory, educational scholarship program for the benefit of non-traditional students. These include persons who are past high school age and who are entering a college, university, or trade schools and/or the workforce for the first time, non-traditional students already enrolled in a college/university or trade program, are re-training due to changes in the workplace, or who otherwise are not the traditional college or trade school student, recently finished with high school. Gil Purcell Memorial Journalism Scholarship

An award to encourage Aboriginal Canadians to pursue a career in journalism through a combination of studies at a Canadian postsecondary institution and experience in a newsroom.

Eligibility:

  • Student must be Aboriginal (status or non-status Indian, Metis or Inuit)
  • and enrolled at a Canadian university or community college in a journalism program,
  • or actively involved with a news organization associated with the institution (such as a student newspaper of broadcast station)

Global Television Network Broadcasters of the Future Awards

Internship Award for a Canadian with a Physical Disability

This annual Scholarship-Internship Award is offered to a Canadian student with a mobility impairment and provides educational assistance as well as a challenging opportunity to work in private television in pursuit of a career in broadcasting. The Award, valued at up to $15,000, covers all tuition fees* and textbooks* for one full scholastic year of a radio and television arts program or journalism program at a recognized Canadian university or college, commencing in the Fall. The Award also includes a three or four-month Internship at the Global Television Network in Don Mills (Toronto), for the summer and moving expenses associated with the Internship. In addition, the Award covers transportation, hotel and attendance expenses at the Canadian Association of Broadcasters annual convention, in November, where the award will be presented. *as determined by the specific university or college course outline

2019 Gunn’s Hill Winds Farm Renewable Educational Bursary for Indigenous Students & Members of the Six Nations

The Gunn’s Hill Limited Partnership is now accepting applications for the 2019 Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm Educational Bursaries. Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm Educational Bursary for Indigenous Students, and the Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm Educational Bursary are members of the Six Nations of the Grand River. Up to $ 4,000 are available through July 31, 2019.

The bursaries have been made available through the Gunn’s Hill Limited Partnership, which is a partnership between Prowind Inc., the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, and the Oxford Community Energy Co-operative. The Gunn’s Hill Limited Partnership was established to develop and own the Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm, which is located at 18MW wind farm located in Oxford County, Ontario and is generating 6700 homes in the surrounding area.

Hocktoberfest Legacy Scholarship Fund

WindsorEssex Community Foundation logo

The Hocktoberfest Legacy Scholarship Fund was established to provide a yearly scholarship to a female hockey player who is entering post-secondary school or currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and playing in the Hocktoberfest Female Hockey Tournament. If the tournament ceases to operate then any female hockey player in Windsor or Essex County is eligible for the scholarship.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have reached secondary school graduating status and be pursuing a post-secondary education or be enrolled in a post-secondary program.
  • Proof of enrollment is required.
  • Must be a female hockey player.
  • Must have an overall good grade average.
  • Must demonstrate evidence of community involvement.

HOCKTOBERFEST SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Horatio Alger National Vocational & Technical Education Scholarship Program

This program provides financial assistance to students across Canada who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarship criteria also include high school completion by spring of 2019, be enrolled in a 3 years or less technical degree/certificate program in Fall that will lead to employment, be under the age of 30 and be a Canadian citizenship.

The Association will award 25 scholarships in 2019 with a maximum amount of $3,000 depending on the length of the program and the need of the student.

DEADLINE: July 15, 2019. Applications submitted after July 15 will be reviewed on a rolling basis and awards are contingent on availability.

Houzz Scholarship

Houzz welcomes all students 18 years of age or older at interior design, architecture, landscape architecture, and architectural engineering schools in the U.S. and Canada to apply for one of our four scholarships. William Peyton Hubbard Memorial Award
Two awards are available annually to black students attending an Ontario college or university. The award value is based on one (1) year's tuition ($4,000 university or $2,000 college). Given to a black female and a black male student who has completed one year of study and is currently in the second year of one of the following programs: Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Science, (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) Business/Technology.

Recipients must:

  • be of good academic standing;
  • demonstrate good, oral and written communication skills;
  • demonstrate leadership skills;
  • be involved in extra-curricular activities within the community or campus;
  • not be receiving more than one other award of equal or greater value in his/her second year;

Joubin/Selig Scholarship

The Joubin/Selig Scholarship Fund was established by Toronto Foundation donors to provide financial assistance to post-secondary students in Ontario with permanent physical (mobility) disabilities who wish to pursue an education in their chosen field of study. Scholarships from the Joubin/Selig Scholarship Fund are available in competition among qualifying students enrolled in colleges and universities in Ontario.

Kay Sansom Scholarships

Three awards of $1,000 each and a one-year membership in OADD are available to Ontario students with interests in developmental disabilities. One award is presented in each of three categories:

  • community college students.
The Award must be used to pursue a full-time, specific educational goal in a recognized program associated with a professional discipline related to developmental disabilities. It may not be used for travel. Financial need may be considered.

NEADS National Student Awards Program

The NEADS National Student Awards Program is offered to encourage full access to post-secondary education for persons with disabilities, who often have greater barriers to participation in higher education, as well as extra costs because of their disabilities. Students must currently be registered in and continuing at post-secondary institution and provide documented proof of registration as part of the application and on receipt of the award. The award will be offered to outstanding applicants who meet the criteria of the program. The awards are paid directly to the post-secondary institution (in the student's accounts) that the recipients are attending to defray the cost of tuition fees for post-secondary study.

Eligibility:
  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
  • Applicants must have a permanent disability*
  • Applicants must be currently registered in and returning to a full-time program of study at an accredited Canadian post-secondary college or university. Full-time status is at least 40% of a full course load.

*For the purpose of these awards, a permanent disability is a permanent functional limitation which affects the ability of the student to participate fully in post-secondary education.

Storwell offers an annual bursary upwards of $2,000 in support of foster children to help them attend post-secondary schools and to offer a hand up as they make their way forward in life. The bursary is for 1 $2,000 and 4 $500 sums. The Sunshine Coast Health Centre Scholarship

As a leader in addiction treatment, Sunshine Coast Health Centre is proud to announce a new scholarship opportunity for $1000 to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in clinical counselling, psychology, social sciences, medical, and nursing programs who are interested in working in addictions and mental health in Canada.

Tamara Gordon Foundation Scholarship

The Tamara Gordon Foundation was established in 2013, to assist students with permanent physical disabilities who wish to pursue their dreams of completing an education in their field of study. The Tamara Gordon Foundation Scholarship assists recipients to defray a portion of the costs to complete their post secondary education. The award of a TGF Scholarship is competitive, therefore academic standing and volunteering will be a significant decision factor for the Selection Committee. Awards are granted on an annual basis. A recipient in good standing may have their award renewed at the discretion of the Selection Committee through re-application.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants Must:

  1. Be a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant with a physical disability
  2. Be enrolled in a program at an Ontario University that is a member of Universities Canada or one of Ontario's 24 Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology for the 2017/18 academic year
  3. Be a Grade 12 student in the province of Ontario, or a student already enrolled in a postsecondary program and looking to advance to either year 2, 3, 4 onwards

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award

This is an annual scholarship, valued at $4,000 and renewable for up to four years. Students must be studying towards a first degree or diploma, be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and not over 25 years of age. Demonstration of the highest ideals and qualities of citizenship will be criteria for the selection of recipients. Further relevant qualities are courage in overcoming obstacles, involvement in humanitarian service and participation in sport, fitness and community service.

UFCW Canada Beggs - Dowling - Mathieu Scholarship

As an ally and resource to the membership, UFCW Canada is committed to providing opportunities to improve the future of members and their families. One initiative we're particularly proud of is the Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarships Program which over the past two decades has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships to UFCW Canada members and members of their families. Allocated by regions across Canada these scholarships are named as a lasting tribute to three past leaders of our union: William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Roméo Mathieu.

Each year UFCW Canada offers 18 annual Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarships of $1,000 each to active members and their family members for post-secondary study. If you are a UFCW Canada member, you, your spouse and children are eligible to apply if you are attending full-time studies at a Canadian university, college, or other recognized post-secondary institution.

Veterinary Technician Scholarship

To assist students in pursuit of a career caring for animals and supporting the work done by Veterinarians.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be enrolled full-time in the Veterinary Technician program (provide acceptance letter or "proof of enrolment letter" from Registrar's Office)
  • Maintain 3.5 GPA (provide official transcript)
