Explore the features and advantages of modern digital cameras, while learning the basic principles of photography. Learn how to control your camera and capture the images you have always imagined. No prior knowledge of photography is required to take this course. This program will lead you to a better understanding of exposure and basic camera features, light, colour and composition. Course will include a field trip to gain practical experience. Students will require a digital SLR or mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY II
A continuation of Digital Photography I, the basic concepts of photography will be applied through a series of hands on exercises. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of photographic concepts and will become proficient in camera control and proper exposure. Visual design, light, creativity and composition will all be demonstrated in detail. In class experiences will include still life, portraiture, product, sports and night photography in addition to a field trip.

INTRO TO ART AND ARTISTS’ TECHNIQUES
Learn to express your ideas and feelings through visual arts. No experience is necessary for this course as you will be taught to draw and paint including shape recognition and brush techniques. Local artist Tanya Nantais will guide students through experimenting with various materials to express their individual and unique artistic vision. ESSENTIALS OF PAINTING WITH WATERCOLOURS
Taught by local artist Shelley Roung, this course is an introduction to painting in watercolours, starting with basic techniques and progressing through wet into wet, wet on dry and dry brush techniques to achieve various textures. You will explore techniques for skies, trees, water, buildings, hills and atmosphere. Previous students are welcome to return to refine their techniques. THE ART OF STAND-UP COMEDY
Learn the art of stand-up comedy from Leo Dufour, professional comedian. Learn the fundamentals of stand-up comedy, the underlying psychology, how to write a joke, delivering a joke with confidence and conviction, timing, speed of delivery, rhythm, stage presence, use of a microphone, strategies for interacting with audience members, and how to handle a heckler. The course will include an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience!

INTRODUCTION TO ESSENTIAL OILS

SEWING – BASIC
If you’ve never sewn before, learn sewing machine maintenance, preparation and cutting of fabric, pattern know-how, sewing and choosing the right fabric. Students will complete a basic garment during this course. You will be notified at the first class of materials required. Sewing machines are provided.

The student will complete an assigned project from plans to final assembly. Emphasis will be on tools and techniques available for the small or home shop. The assigned project will be a decorative or useful item for the home and will change each semester allowing the student to repeat the course until comfortable with the skills needed. The course fees include some basic supplies, but students must choose and buy their own construction materials. Pencil, ruler and paper will be needed for the first night. Pre-requisite: GNR WDW1N.
